Export options & browser limits
Applies to newly added files. PNG uses 8-bit sRGB. Animation becomes a still image. HDR and source metadata are not retained. Maximum 24 MP and 8,192 pixels per side, 120 MiB per selection, 160 MiB retained output. Very large images can still exceed your device's decoding memory.

AVIF is efficient for delivery. PNG is convenient for editing and sharing. Here is what changes under the hood.

What “lossless” means here. PNG preserves the exported pixels. The browser first decodes and color-converts the source, so HDR highlights and wide-gamut colors can change. Existing AVIF compression artifacts remain. Keep your original for archival or color-critical work.
If your Photoshop version, Figma import flow or plugin rejects an AVIF, export a PNG and import that file. Transparent edges stay available for layouts and compositing.
Check at 100% zoom after import. For HDR or print color work, keep the source and use a color-managed editor.
[02] DEVELOPMENT
Build a reliable fallback.
Generate a local PNG fixture for debugging or use it as a fallback in a <picture> element. An older browser can display the PNG even when it cannot decode AVIF.
Create the fallback in an AVIF-capable browser first. Set explicit image dimensions to reserve layout space.
[03] EVERYDAY FILES
Make the attachment work.
If Windows Photos reports an unsupported format or Office rejects your AVIF, try the exported PNG. Compatibility depends on the app version and installed codecs.
In Word or PowerPoint, use Insert → Pictures and select the downloaded .png. Changing a filename alone will not convert it.

Will AVIF to PNG conversion preserve quality and transparency?
PNG losslessly stores the pixels exported by the browser and retains transparency. This tool uses an 8-bit sRGB Canvas workflow. HDR, wide-gamut color, original metadata and animation are not preserved. Converting a lossy AVIF cannot restore detail already removed by its encoder.
Why is my PNG larger than the original AVIF?
AVIF often uses lossy AV1 compression, while PNG stores pixels with lossless DEFLATE compression. Photos can therefore grow substantially. Compare the actual sizes on each result card. The optional PNG resize tool reduces dimensions and detail; it does not guarantee a smaller file.
Are my images uploaded, and is there a daily limit?
This page converts images in browser memory without uploading them or using accounts or analytics. The page loads Tailwind from a third-party CDN, which receives a normal asset request. There is no daily quota. Device safeguards allow 40 files, 25 MiB per file, 120 MiB per selection and 24 megapixels per image, with 160 MiB of retained outputs. Clear results to release them.
What can I do if an AVIF image will not open?
Try an up-to-date browser with AVIF decoding support. A corrupt file, an unsupported AVIF profile or device memory limits can prevent conversion. Renaming the extension does not convert the image. Use the dedicated HEIC, PDF or SVG pages for those formats. Animated inputs produce a single still image here.

Compress PNG — make a smaller-dimension copy
Convert or add a PNG above. On its result card, open “File too large? Compress this PNG”, select a scale, then create a copy. Resizing discards pixel detail and may reduce bytes. The original-size output remains available. Canvas does not expose a PNG quality slider or a guaranteed lossless size reduction.
The converter reads only files you select or drop. Conversion and ZIP creation use browser memory. No file content is sent to a server, and this page uses no analytics, cookies or persistent storage. Clear results or close the page to release retained outputs. Downloads are saved by your browser.
Tailwind CSS loads from cdn.tailwindcss.com, which receives the standard network request, including your IP address. Conversion and the inline layout work if that CDN is unavailable. Following external links or opening other matrix pages is governed by those pages' own behavior.
